"Yo dis is Apolegetics, a black male tryna sail on life's boat/ but on da straight and narrow just to stay a float/ of da water/ cause da waters gettin' hotter/ but I live for The Potter/ so I cannot get slaughtered! / " -- Apolegetics aka Agetics. |
This T DOT (Toronto) native, talented HipHop artist / song writer has been underground like the Ninja Turtles for years, but now has decided to surface.
Originally entering the game as a novice who went by the name C Soldier (Christ's Soldier), now after receiving more
wisdom, many experiences, trials and tribulations, backsliding, and more discipline… with God he has emerged to
become whom we know today as Apolegetics.
Apolegetics grew up in the church almost his whole life but he only started listening to hiphop from the age of 9 (grade 4). For the first few years of listening to hiphop he was not really into it. He mainly just listened to the popular mainstream artists, it wasn't until the start of his teenage hood that he really started to appreciate it and listen to it on a larger scale. At the age of 12 he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal saviour. "This was a major event in my life, I started to take my life and things in it more seriously, I started to screen what I did, things I said, and even the places I went! " Ever since he started listening to hiphop all the music had been secular, the release of Kirk Franklin/ Nu Nation's song/ video - Revolution, sparked his first encounter with a good Gospel hiphop song or video. "There wasn't really that much Gospel hiphop at the time that I knew about and the stuff that I did hear I felt was whack, especially compared to the secular." Eager to find better Gospel hiphop, Apolegetics searched TV, radio, and even the Internet. In 1998, he heard a couple tracks off The Crossmovement's second album "House of Representatives" and his search was over. "I rolled up on some crazy skilled underground Gospel hiphop artists …The Crossmovement, these guys were the first real quality gospel hiphop artists I came across, these cats turned me on to Gospel hiphop." His growth as a child of God and the increase involvement with Gospel hiphop caused him to change his name from C Soldier to Apolegetics (which means to defend your faith, and is also someone who has a full general knowledge of the Bible where their able to defend against someone who comes with questions, accusations, or views contrary to the Word Of God.) because of the desire to have a name with deeper meaning and more flavor. As time went on Apolegetics began to catch lyrics a lot faster, lyrics that He was also able to recite back with the same speed and vitality with which he heard it. He began to write his own lyrics, develop His flow, and started freestyling at various concerts, shows, events and just in His spare time. In, 2003, he attended a lyrics and song writing class at the post secondary level where he learned more about different song styles, structures, and the music industry itself. Apolegetics has made it a point when performing to do what it takes to get the message he's trying convey across to the audience. He accomplishes this by reading scripture, doing acapellas (rapping with no beat), using various body actions to act out what he's saying, using vivid wordplay, and throwing (lyrical) punches like a 20 year old Mike Tyson! Apolegetics has performed live at various events such as: his church, outreaches, schools, concerts, youth jams, even a funeral! He has opened for the Gospel Dance Hall artist Prodical Son at a concert with over 1500 people. On June 24/05 Apolegetics aka Agetics released his first music project the: “Mixed Music Mixtape Volume 1” for FREE on his website: www.Agetics.com (on the Music/Audio page), which has been getting excellent feedback from people worldwide! He refuses to slowdown after his first music release, so He’s currently busy working on his full length debut album. |
